A standard evacuated solar tube is an incredibly efficient collector. Putting the Willocx engine directly at the top of the tube changes everything:
1. Direct Thermal Conduction (Zero Heat Transport Losses)
In standard solar thermal systems, hot fluid must be pumped out of the tubes, through insulated manifolds, and into an engine or storage tank. This transport loop inherently bleeds heat.
The thermal energy jumps instantly from the sun into the Willocx Engine's evaporation chamber with virtually zero distance or transmission loss.
2. Micro-Power Density from an Elegant Footprint
An LTD Stirling engine sitting on a solar tube would look like a giant balloon pinned to a toothpick. Because dry gas expands so weakly under solar heat, a Stirling engine requires a massive piston diameter to generate a few watts,
The True "Solar-Night" Advantage
Unbeatable Lifespan: Unlike lithium-ion or lead-acid batteries that degrade over a few years and thousands of cycles, a water column inside a glass vacuum tube has an infinite cycle life. It will store heat just as effectively in year 20 as it did on day one.
High-Speed Night Discharging: Because the vacuum tubes completely cut off conduction heat loss to the cold night air, the water at the top of the tube remains close to its peak daytime temperature. The Willocx engine can continue spinning in pitch blackness, using the heat of the 90 °C water reservoir.
The Cool Night Air Bonus: At night, the ambient temperature drops. The cold side might drop below 50 °C, which expands the temperature delta (Δ T), boosts the internal pressure shifts, and maximizes the engine's mechanical efficiency.
